Olympic torch to come to Thanet

At the Turner Contemporary gallery on Monday 7 November it was announced that the Olympic Torch for the 2012 Games would be coming to Margate on 19 July 2012. Dane Court's Sports Ambassadors – Beth Smith and Zoe Woodward – were invited to attend the 'press release' event which was televised by ITV Meridian and also covered by the Thanet Gazette. St. Peter's Junior School Choir sang their 'Olympic' song and then the 'Thanet Schools Torch' was passed to each Sports Ambassador representing the various schools of Thanet.

To celebrate the Thanet Schools Olympic Torch being at Dane Court during the week of 26-30 September, years seven. eight and nine took part in a specially organised house competition.
The sporting event was organised in a such a way that it allowed students to experience 'first hand' the seven Olympic values of Excellence, Inspiration, Determination, Courage, Equality, Respect and Friendship.
Every student's performance contributed to the end score for each house, with extra points allocated to the Houses of those students who were first in an event for their year group.

The winners were:
Year seven - Sorrento
Year eight - Delphi
Year nine - Barcelona

Olympic and paralympic torch arrives

The Thanet Schools Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relay arrived at Dane Court in spectacular style on Monday 26 September.

Year seven students lined the route from the front gate to the main entrance of the school buildings, clapping and cheering as Drapers Mills Primary School Young Ambassadors came to hand over the torch to our school.

Project Landrover evoques memories for ex pupil

On Monday 26 September an ex student from Dane Court came to the school. Sean Henstridge is a designer for Range Rover and works in Warwick and made the journey to Dane Court in the new Range Rover Evoque. Students taking GCSE and AS graphics were involved in a task to design a new aspect of the Range Rover Evoque for the next facelift. Sean gave an introductory speech about how he got into the industry and how the design process of a car works. Students then went out to have a good look round the top of the range car to conduct some research.
