Sport Relief 2014 starts early

Holly, Dominic and Charlie climbed Snowdon on our climbing wallDane Court staff and students got a head start on this year's Sport Relief excitement.

The charity reckon that our area raised more than its fair share of cash in 2013 and invited us to put on a special day of physical fund raisers a full three weeks before the rest of the nation.
The PE department swung into acton organising an impressive range of challenges from staff versus students dodgeball and non-stop badminton to climbing a mountain on our school climbing wall.

Children With Cancer UK

Children With Cancer websiteHelsinki house's charity for 2013-2014 is Children With Cancer 2014. Many will remember the Funky Footwear Friday event organised by Mrs Pickard last April where, as a school, we raised nearly £700 for the charity. Mrs Pickard also ran in the 2013 London Marathon in aid of Children with Cancer UK.

Now Helsinki have decided to support the charity in a vote which included another candidate charity for people with Cancer (Macmillan Cancer Support). Between them these two organisations received the vast majority of votes so we are certainly supporting a charity which means a great deal to many Helsinki members.

We would be pleased to hear from pupils, staff or parents who would like to help raise funds for this important cause.

tallin tigers light bg 150pxJust a quick notice to say a big well done to all the year 7's that join in with the quizzes! It is a great way to get involved with inter-house events and earn some house points! We all know how much pride we take in house events (and especially winning) so having you guys getting involved is great. Well done again to Abbie Parsons, Tom Coyne, Charlotte Prentice, Katie Perkins, Ciro Fleiro and Bailey Vaughn.

Introducing your Tallinn house captains 2014

t captains14A massive thank you to all those who applied for the House Captain role this year. It was really wonderful to see so many nominees. Brilliant campaigns presented by all, Daniella Dunn, Xanthe McAllister, Francesca Kiting and Lizzy Smith. Thank you all so much for your hard work!
It was a tight vote and Mr Rye and Miss Junaideen are happy to present Dan, Rhiannon and Courtney as Tallinn's new House Captains. Congratulations guys, we look forward to working with you this year!

Hi, my name is Rhiannon and I am so glad that I get to be a Tallinn House Captain! I have been at Dane Court since year 7 so I am very familiar with the school and I know what the students want. At the moment I am also volunteering at a local youth club so I am very used to be co-operating and working with 11-16 year olds. I have new ideas for house events, for example more student vs. teacher events, and I am happy for anyone to come to me with any idea of what they may want to do in the future! I want the students to have more say in what we do! So I want to hear from you. So please come and me and the other house captains with ideas or problems and I assure you that we will try our best to help.

Hi I'm Dan and I'm one of Tallinn's new house captains!! My main aim as house captain is to make the house competitions fun and get as many people joining in and enjoying them as possible. Another of my main aims is to get an inter house football competition as I know that the majority of people in the school have wanted one for years!

Outside of school I enjoy playing football, which I do regularly. I also love music and being at music concerts and festivals. My favourite thing to do is go on holiday and travel abroad and cannot wait to travel the world. I went on the South Africa and Namibia trip last summer with the school and it was the best experience of my life shared with the best people! My favourite place to be is on a football pitch. I love sport, I'll take part in almost any sport or game!

Hi, I'm Courtney and I am one of the Tallinn House Captains. I am motivated, competitive, approachable and I'd love to make this year a very successful one for Tallinn. This is my sixth year at Dane Court and it has been a really enjoyable experience. I volunteer for 1st St. Peter's Sea Scout Group in both the Cub and Scout sections and I am a member of Margate Yacht Club. Well that's a quick bit about me, looking forward to our year ahead.
