...... After fifteen hours on a plane, what struck us first was the brightness; strange really for a place often described as a “dark continent!” Eighteen months of planning and fund raising has all led to nineteen students finally touching down in Namibia, with its vast open spaces and endless blue skies, to start the adventure of a lifetime.
The long-standing and ever-popular annual trip to the Kent Mountain Centre (KMC) will take place from Sunday 30 October to Saturday 5 November 2011.
The residential visit is open to current year eight students and gives them the opportunity to experience a unique combination of outdoor and adventurous activities.
KMC is located at the foot of Snowdon in North Wales on the shores of the beautiful Padarn Lake.
A group of 30 year nine students spent Wednesday at the Winter Gardens in Margate, along with groups of similar age invited from secondary and special school across the Isle of Thanet, where they learned about career opportunities in the arts. The students have recently chosen to study GCSE art, drama or music so they were all keen find out more.
The event, organised and supported by Kent County Council, Thanet District Council and the Turner Contemporary, had a Margate theme.
The day started with all the participants being escorted to the Queen's Hall whisked back to the sixties and seventies where they were treated to the sights and sounds of a very different Margate.
Molly Dawson and Dominic Woodward-Lebihan were among the 56 students, accompanied by the PE department teachers, taking part in a two-day tour visiting the homes two great London football clubs.
