Geography department steps into the rainforest

P1020816 250pxAs part of our year sevens unit on ecology and sustainability, we once again welcomed Ranger Emma from Zoolab, with her wonderful collection of rainforest creatures. Students were introduced to a giant African snail, a thorny stick insect, a tree frog, a millipede and finally a corn (constrictor) snake. Emma described many interesting facts about the natural habitats and life cycles of each creature and also the many dangers facing the rainforests of the world, particularly through deforestation. The students exhibited great curiosity and delight whilst handling the creatures and will take away a greater appreciation of the huge diversity that exists within the depths of the rainforests.

Energize your future

The Lighthouse ChallengeA group of 35 year eight students spent last week working with Education Busines Partnership Kent and local employer Cummins Power Generation to explore how we make electricity and other forms of energy. The week started with a visit to school by James and Sudhar - two ambassadors from Cummins. They brought with them a range of models and kits for our pupils to use when exploring many ways of generating electricity. In the afternoon James and Sudhar introduced our students to the challenge for the rest of the week; to develop an innovative way to generate power for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

High School Musical on Stage!

hsm 250pxIn July 2014 students and staff from across the school joined forces to present High School Musical on Stage!
Created by Disney and based on their own 2006 TV movie; "High School Musical", the theatrical format retains the energy and strong story line (described by the author as a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet) of the film version.
