Students entertain at Yoakley care home

boar drop shadow alpha trans 100pxThe Fairy Godmother of all pantomimes arrived at Yoakley Residential Home Margate this week in the guise of the Year 12 IBCP Health and Social Care class’s festive offering of “Cinderella” to the residents.

All the classic ingredients for a riotous afternoon of jokes and mayhem were in evidence – a wicked step-mother, a glass slipper and of course, a dashing Prince Charming who outwitted the ugly sisters to claim his bride and live happily ever after.

A month of intense planning and rehearsing under the directorial genius of Grace saw the class design scenery, assemble costumes and learn lines in a truly collaborative team effort as part of the Health and Social Care course. For many in the class, the pantomime was the first time they had showcased their dramatic talents. However, all the hard work and backstage nerves were duly rewarded at curtain fall by a receptive audience, with not a boo or a hiss to be heard in the house.

The pantomime was followed by an opportunity to relax with the Yoakley residents over party games, an operatic song medley by Patrick and a buffet, again planned and baked by the class.

A great way to kick-start Christmas and a rewarding finale to a busy term for the Department.
