Fixtures roundup for week ending 26 October 2012

sport leaders oct12 200pxThe week started in fine style as both our U13 Girls and U13 Boys secured excellent victories over local opposition The Boys must have thought they had gained performance of the day with a 6-0 victory over Hereson and Ellington, the goals were scored by Jack Walton (3), Luke Powell and Tom Halfpenny, the final goal was an own goal. Their high spirits at such a victory were to be complemented by the return of their female counterparts who had comprehensively outscored them in their away fixture at Ursuline, proudly returning on the bus the Girls had brought back an 11-0 victory over the Ursuline School to finish this half term on a high for the whole year group. The goals were scored by Emily Downs (2), Omega Skeen (2), Kealy Goldsmith, Sarah Villasenor and Kyra Macrae who was the undoubted star of the show with a five goal haul.

We also hosted the Folkestone Academy on Monday for an U14 Kent Cup Rugby fixture,

'On a foggy Monday afternoon Dane Court's Year Nine Rugby team, last years losing finalists, shone like fifteen lighthouses on full beam. The Court exploded into action with a passionate start, scoring a try within the first few minutes through Daniel Adams. Dane Court continued to take the game to a very powerful Folkestone side, matching them physically and showing a mental toughness that any great rugby side would be proud of. Dane Court's lead was doubled halfway through the half after great forward play from Amod Shrestha and Tim Norman before releasing the ever reliable Charlie Knight. The second half continued to be a bruising encounter as the large Folkestone team looked for chinks in Dane Court's armour. Dane Court's tackling remained strong with any missed tackle being tidied up by the brave Mitchell Dennis at full back. Charlie Knight scored Dane Court's final try to ensure that the win would be ours.'

Dane Court 15 - 7 Folkestone Academy

On Wednesday the Dane Court Sports Leaders were in action for the first time this year! We have twenty one Sports Leaders in Year Ten and they all went to Haddon Dene Primary School on Tuesday afternoon to run a multiskills festival for forty year three and four students. The primary school students were split into seven different teams and had the chance to compete in seven different activities that had been designed by the Sports Leaders, the aim was enjoyment and the smiling faces on both the older and younger students showed that the aim was achieved! Games with imaginative titles like 'Rolling Rocks' and 'Throw for Fun' ensured that all of the young students had the chance to enjoy the afternoon. The winning team were the Sharks who beat off strong competition from the Crazy Crocs and Stingrays! It was great to see older students leading their younger counterparts in such a mature and considerate manner, well done to both the leaders and the Hadden Dene students who took part with such enthusiasm!

The Senior Boys made the lengthy trip to the Howard School in Gillingham on Wednesday, the highs and lows of sport were encapsulated in an action packed game which ultimately left the squad frustrated. On a compact, sloping pitch the first half was dominated by the home team who took an early two nil lead, an Alex Miles goal ten minutes from half time restored hope which was quickly tempered by a goal form the Howard to make it three one within an minute.

The second half would prove to be a different story as the Court got to grips with the Howard's wide players and began to exert more influence in the middle of the field. Gradually Dane Court began to impose their will on the game and an excellently curled free kick from Alex Miles saw the team draw to within one goal with fifteen minutes to play. The Howard were now on the back foot and a number of attacks down the right create opportunities for the Dane Court attackers, from one such break Ethan Clark delivered a cross of the highest quality to be met by Dan Reeves with a bullet header into the top corner, a goal from the top drawer saw the score 3-3 with five to play. On the balance of play there was to be only one winner now as the momentum was with Dane Court and they pushed for the winner. The Howard school responded with and vigor forced a number of corners, the last of which was to prove Dane Court's downfall as the ecstasy of the come back was reduced to the agony of defeat. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball find its way over the line with mere seconds to play, Dane Court could not muster another fight back and ended the game deflated at the thought of having to return to Thanet with no reward for such a huge effort. Lessons will be learned and as a squad improvements will be made in order to ensure that the necessary concentration is in place to make certain that we do not need to fightback from losing positions in the future. With a league game against Marlowe Academy on Wednesday 7 November quickly followed by a Kent Cup meeting with Hayes on Saturday 10 the team will have ample opportunity and desire to return to winning ways.

The final local league games of this season took place on Thursday evening, both the U16 and U14 teams were in action against Hereson and Ellington. The U16 boys ended their campaign with a disappointing nil four reverse, they were again not short on effort but Hereson took their chances at the right time. The U14 boys also conceded four goals but were more clinical in front of goal as they scored four in an eight goal thriller away to Hereson. This leaves them unbeaten in local games, winning work can bring about positive change. Particular congratulations to Oli Harris who has scored in every game and led the attack superbly.

A big thank you to all parents and staff who have supported in any way this half term and congratulations to all students for their efforts so far this year. Have a great half term,

Many Thanks
