Dane Court - British national modern biathlon champions

P1010118A Year 8 Team from Dane Court dominated the British National Modern Biathlon Championship by adding the National crown to their School crown.

The Modern Biathlon comprises of 100m swim followed by a 1500m run. Points are awarded for each discipline and final positions are decided by the total number of points achieved after both disciplines.

Harry Bradford, Jamie O'Connor and Alexander Wilmshurst represented Dane Court at the Wyndley Leisure Centre in Sutton Coldfield on Sunday 13 May. They faced very stiff competition from dedicated pentathletes and from some well known sport schools.

After the swim Alexander was in first place, Jamie in second and Harry in fourth which was not a surprise because all three boys are national swimmers and it is their primary sport that they train for up to 9 sessions per week.

But they knew that they would have their work cut out in the run where they were up against some very good runners. However they needn't have worried because Alex finished third in the run in a time of 4.39 and both Harry and Jamie were well inside their personal bests recording 5.12 and 5.21 respectively.

As a consequence Dane Court Grammar School were British National Modern Biathlon Team Champions with Dorset Pentathletes second and Whitgift School third.

Further Alex was overall individual British National Champion having finished first in the swim and then third in the run. Jamie finished ninth overall and Harry tenth.

Lauren Joy from Year 10 was also competing in the girl's event and after the swim was in second place. After a tough run and putting in another personal best she finished 18th overall.
