2012british arts award 200pxBack in November, Rebecca Friend and Lily Jellett (7S) won the inter-house drama competition with their rendition of Roald Dahl's poem, 'Television'. At the time, the Sorrento House Captain described the girls as 'ones to look out for in the future'. He was right. Six months later, they have just scooped first place at the final of the British Arts Awards in London. After impressing judges at the local heats in January, Lily and Rebecca travelled to Surrey last month for the regional semi-finals. Their dynamic and mesmerising performance once again wowed the judging panel and they were awarded a place in the national finals.

On Friday 11 May, with a mixture of nerves and excitement, they travelled to the Polish Theatre in West London. The competition was tough. An array of dance and drama acts took to the stage, each eager to take home a prize. Finally it was the girls' turn to perform. Their performance was sensational, filled with expression, enthusiasm and emotion. The audience was captivated and the applause said it all. They were brilliant.

After an anxious wait, the medals ceremony arrived and the girls heard what they had been hoping for: "First place goes to Rebecca Friend and Lily Jellett." They had done it.

All that remained was a long journey home for two tired, but exhilarated, trophy winners.
