Sixth formers make a splash

Alex takes the podium top spotDane Court sixth formers have been making waves at the Kent County Swimming Championships held throughout January in London.

A banquet of sporting riches was garnered by Alex, Olivia and Nicole whose stellar performances in the 50 metre pool brought a series of personal bests and podium appearances to the trio.

Alex secured a gold medal in the under 17s 100m fly and a silver in the 100 freestyle. Not to be outdone by her school and club colleague, Olivia romped to victory in the 400m Individual Medley in which she showcased all four strokes to beat the opposition in the over 17s class. A silver medal in the punishing 800 free further gilded the lily.

Nicole took on the feat of psychological endurance and physical stamina that is the 200m fly, medalling by finishing in the top eight in her field.

Life in the swimming fast lane requires a balancing act of gym and pool training sessions and school studies. The commitment and discipline shown by the trio has certainly reaped dividends with the swimmers now eyeing up regional championships in the Spring.
