Year 13 student Reuben proved he is a true sultan of swing with the news that he has gained a place in the prestigious National Youth Jazz Orchestra Academy Big Band based in Bethnal Green London.

The fifteen piece Band will now incorporate Reuben on his saxophone and, with a packed calendar of performances ahead, membership of the Band has often proved to be a gateway into a professional career for many future stars of the jazz scene. Former alumni of the Orchestra include Amy Winehouse and Mark Nightingale.

A rigorous audition process required Reuben to showcase a broad church of musical virtuosity, including sight reading technique, improvisations and melodies by Reuben’s jazz inspiration Sonny Rollins.
With Reuben’s first rehearsal with the Band already behind him, we are sure that Reuben’s star is set to shine brightly on the contemporary jazz scene.
