The students participated in a round robin event with successful teams progressing to a knock out final to find an overall winner. The Dane Court Super Speedy Car was sponsored by a local company, Instro Precision Ltd, Broadstairs in conjunction with the Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and is part of our programme to promote STEM activities within the school. Although the Dane Court car performed well it was no match for some of the veteran racers that have benefitted from being involved in the scheme for a number of years. The overall winner recorded a tournament speed record of 84mph achieved over the length of a tennis court.
One students commented "The speedy car project was started quite early in the year not long after the Tim Peake interview at Wellesley House School. Designing the car was an amazing experience we learnt how to use new software, how a moulding machine works and much more, we all had a great time and loved being able to competitively race our car against other school's creations, then, to put the icing on the cake we were all rewarded a McDonald's McFlurry each for our hard work and efforts, none of which could have been done without the help of the sixth formers Arienne and Leonardo and then Mr Dean was there to top it off."
