On Tuesday 26 June a small group of Dane Court sixth formers travelled to the Surrey hills to listen to Rachel Murton from elephant orphanage project in Zambia tell stories from the African bush and explain their role in protecting and saving elephants from the cruel act of poaching.
Captured by Rachel's passion and enthusiasm for the 11 elephants they currently care for, the pupils listened thoughtfully through her 45 minute talk, before enjoying an insightful conversation afterwards over a glass of sparkling mineral water. Most of the conversation centred around the possibility of visiting the project and the chance to offer a helping hand, as well sharing stories from their time in Africa with Mr White. "You know when pupils have been inspired as they can't stop talking about it and ask copious amounts of questions about elephants on the journey home". The pupils also made the donation of two tiny horse blankets courtesy of Miss Ash (thank you), which will be used to help keep the orphans warm at night.
